Artsplay is an integrated performing arts program for young children. The classes provide holistic early childhood music, drama, and movement experiences aimed at supporting children’s intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development.

Artsplay classes are modeled after Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning Through the Arts classroom residencies. Each class is taught by a Wolf Trap Teaching Artist and an early childhood specialist.

By registering, you agree to our classes policy.
During the Winter term, 8 classes will be held on Saturdays from January 17 through March 7, 2009.
Classes are not interchangeable.
Participants can only attend their registered class.
Space is very limited and available on a first come, first served basis.

Tuition: $200 per 8-week session

With your registration, you will receive

  • A special Artsplay kit with the featured children's book and other fun and engaging resources
  • Activities and resources to enhance and extend you and your child's experience with the artists

Location

All classes held at the Center for Education at Wolf Trap.
Changing stations are available in male and female restrooms.

Teacher Bio

Krissie Marty studied theater and postmodern dance at the University of Texas and choreography at the University of Iowa. She has taught children and adults of all abilities with the Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning Through the Arts, Jacob's Pillow School, Towson University, Liz Lerman Dance Exchange, NewVic (London), Adugna Dance Company (Ethiopia), and Grinnell College. Her choreography has been performed at the Kennedy Center, Stratford Circus, Chateau de Cazals, Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, and Rockledge Elementary School’s cafetorium. Krissie has also danced with children in home health and hospice care, as well as at the Pediatric Unit at Georgetown Medical Center. She has been a Wolf Trap Teaching Artist for three years.

Kofi Dennis is a graduate of the School of Performing Arts, University of Ghana, and studied early childhood and adolescent education at Komenda College, University of Cape Coast. He performs as half of the duo Anansegromma, presenting music, dance, drums, games, and stories. Kofi has been teaching creative drama at the Montessori School of Northern Virginia, Annandale, for the past ten years and has been a Wolf Trap Teaching Artist since 1998. He co-created and performed for many years in Grandmother's Footsteps, an interactive children's performance at The Barns of Wolf Trap. Kofi is also a Wolf Trap Master Teaching Artist who conducts Artsplay and Baby Artsplay as well as residencies in early childhood classrooms. Since 2004, he has teamed up with the faculty of the World Children's Choir to present African drumming for concepts and for peace. His three daughters sing with the choir.
